Course Description
The purpose of this two (2) hour course is to provide the learner with basic information on how to interpret arterial blood gas results. This two (2) hour course aims to help you: 1) understand how to interpret arterial blood gas (ABG) results, 2) review the respiratory and renal systems related to ABGs, and 3) understand how a patient's condition and acid-base imbalances are connected.
By the end of this course, you will have the skills to:
✔️ Identify which systems help maintain an acid-base balance in the body.
✔️ Identify one of the first signs of an acid-base imbalance.
✔️ Identify components of an ABG and list normal ranges for each component.
✔️ Describe how to evaluate ABG results.
✔️ Identify and define abnormal ABG results.
✔️ Define compensation.
✔️ Identify different conditions that can cause an acid-base imbalance.
