Course information

The purpose of this (2) hour course is to provide a brief overview of pain and discuss assessment and management of acute pain conditions utilizing the American Society of Pain Management Nurses Guidelines, The American Pain Society Guidelines, and the Joint Commission Standards.

By the end of this course, you will have the skills to:

✔️ Review basic physiology of pain.

✔️ Identify appropriate components of pain assessment including the use of age-appropriate pain scales and opioid-induced sedation scales.

✔️ Identify management options, including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions to alleviate acute pain.

✔️ Correctly interpret the Joint Commission Pain Standards.

✔️ Discuss common barriers to effective pain management.
