Course information

The purpose of this (1) hour course is to provide you with information about the HIPAA law and its guidelines. This course covers various aspects of confidentiality, communication, record keeping and how it applies in caring for patients. The course also contains useful information about how to manage encounters with Protected Health Information (PHI) in relation to HIPAA and compliance.

By the end of this course, you will have the skills to:

✔️ Describe what HIPAA is and what portion of the law was recently enacted.

✔️ Identify who is obligated to maintain patient confidentiality.

✔️ Identify what type of patient communication and information sharing requires compliance under HIPAA.

✔️ Describe what PHI is and why it is important.

✔️ Define "Notice of Privacy Practices" and "Minimum Necessary Standard."

✔️ Describe the penalties for non-compliance with HIPAA requirements.
