Course information

The purpose of this (2) hour course is to provide information about safe prescription and transcription of medication dosages, instruction about safe administration practices, and guidance regarding medication safety based on The Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goals.

By the end of this course, you will have the skills to:

✔️ Describe risk reduction strategies to prevent transcription errors.

✔️ Delineate risk reduction strategies to prevent medicine administration errors.

✔️ Identify two potential benefits from using a bar coding system for medication administration.

✔️ Describe methods to improve the reconciliation of medications across the continuum (ROMAC).

✔️ Identify the importance of assessing allergies and patient’s rights to medication administration.

✔️ Identify and contrast symptoms and treatments for allergic reactions.

✔️ Describe the influence of pH and osmolality on the patency of peripheral veins.
