Course Description

This four (4) hour course will provide a review of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, communication techniques, approaches, and individualized needs of dementia patients and their families.  

By the end of this course, you will have the skills to:

✔️ Discuss dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

✔️ Describe communication skills used to connect with dementia patients.

✔️ Discuss techniques and approaches to care of patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

✔️ Describe components of person-centered care.

✔️ Describe social needs and appropriate activities in the care of dementia patients.

✔️ Delineate signs and symptoms of caregiver stress and identify techniques for relieving it.

✔️ Identify dietary needs of patients with dementia.

✔️ Identify the needs of families of dementia patients, and strategies for working with them.

✔️ Describe how to prevent, recognize, and respond to abuse and neglect of dementia patients.

✔️ Discuss the importance of current dementia research.
