Course Description

The purpose of this (3) hour course is to provide healthcare professionals with information regarding the safe administration and dispensing of controlled substances to patients, and the abuse or misuse of illicit drugs in West Virginia (WV). This presentation is divided into 2 sections: Section I covers the safe and effective prescribing, administration and dispensing of controlled substances, and section II deals with drug diversion training.

By the end of this course, you will have the skills to:

✔️ Describe addictive symptomatology and the use of risk evaluation and mitigation strategy in opioid safety management.

✔️ Discuss the West Virginia Controlled Substances Monitoring Program.

✔️ Review the development of a comprehensive patient evaluation and treatment plan.

✔️ Identify drug diversion and drug seeking tactics and behaviors.

✔️ Review methods to minimize drug diversion.

✔️ Outline best practice methods for collaborating with patients suspected of drug seeking behavior and diversion.

✔️ Discuss best practice methods for collaborating with colleagues suspected of drug seeking behavior and diversion.

✔️ Describe the 5 drug diversion prevention laws in WV.
