Intimate Partner Violence

The purpose of this (2) hour course is to give you information about the definition and effects of intimate partner violence (IPV), how to screen for IPV in the healthcare setting, and how to provide appropriate nursing interventions. The course includes information about responding to and documenting abuse, making appropriate referrals within the healthcare setting and in the community, and developing an appropriate safety plan.

By the end of this course, you will have the skills to:

✔️ Define intimate partner violence.

✔️ Identify common mental and physical health effects of IPV.

✔️ Identify the rationale for routine assessment of women for IPV in the healthcare setting.

✔️ Describe key components of a physical and mental health assessment for abused women.

✔️ Identify appropriate community and healthcare referrals for abused women.
